Speeding operation carried out in Handside

A police operation to tackle speeding has been carried out in the Handside area of Welwyn Garden City.

The operation was conducted by the Welwyn Hatfield North Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT).

Speeding in Handside is currently an official neighbourhood policing priority for the NPT and was chosen following consultation with the public.

Officers took to Brockswood Lane on Wednesday 16 July, timing their operation with the busy school run.

Two vehicles were stopped for driving too fast and the drivers were given words of advice.

Sergeant Deane Brittain, who leads the North NPT, said: “We know residents want to see us dealing with speeding in Handside and I hope this operation reassures you. It was nice to chat with a number of you who came up to us and gave support.

“We made sure to carry out the operation in peak time to ensure we could deal with as many drivers as possible. I’m pleased to say that the vast majority were abiding by the speed limit and we thank those drivers.

“For those who think they can flout the law, I urge you to think again. It is no exaggeration to say that speeding can have fatal consequences and nothing is worth taking that risk for.”
